DONATIONS

Sometimes you own a low-end plastic sewing machine, it dies or in some way stops working for you, and you would rather put the cost of service or repair into buying a new machine instead. As much as I would love for everyone to commit to a repair when it's an option (I so hate to see plastic waste), I do understand that for machines which sold new for around $100, this isn't always logical or financially feasible. In these cases, rather than add another mostly-plastic item to the landfill immediately, I ask that you consider donating your dud and its accessories to The Mended Machine for assessment and a possible second life.

Donations will be utilized two-fold:

1. The machine will be cleaned and serviced on The Mended Machine's time and dime, providing further knowledge to myself as a technician, and then determined if it may either be a parts donor or happily revived.

2. Machines able to be revived will be put back into the community, either working with charities and educational groups to provide a new machine for their causes, or into the hands of individuals in need, such as through Buy Nothing or Freecycle groups. No donated machines will be sold for profit, and parts donors will not have their parts charged for; only labor costs will apply where a parts donor is used.

While this is a fledgling program still in development, I am happy to consider groups or charities on recommendation when you donate a machine. I believe this program will best suit modern plastic bodied machines, but I am open to considering vintage machines that ideally zig zag and are in portable cases (no cabinets).
